The engineering firm that helps you build better foundations started in one - the basement of Noel Hargrave-Thomas’ suburban Detroit home.
It was August 1994 when founding principals Hargrave-Thomas, Mark Smolinski and Bruce Wilberding launched G2 Consulting Group in that temporary subterranean space. Their goal: to deliver responsive, specialized geotechnical, environmental and construction engineering services that help clients build better, build smarter and build profits.
The firm quickly developed a core of successful clients and outgrew Noel’s basement. By the end of 1994, G2 moved into its first office in Livonia, hired its first employee and developed a strong core of thriving clients.
As G2’s reputation expanded, so did demand for its services. In 1997, G2 built a new headquarters in Troy, Michigan, complete with materials testing laboratories and room for the firm’s growing fleet of vehicles. New branch offices soon followed, in suburban Chicago in 2000 and in Brighton, Michigan, in 2006.
G2 now employs more than 50 people, engineers licensed as professional engineers in more than 25 states. Our constantly expanding client list includes serving clients including recognized developers, leading civil engineers, top architectural firms, well-known general and specialty contractors, national corporations, municipalities and private firms. It’s a foundation G2 will build on for decades to come!
