Overview

The City of Novi’s Wixom Road Rehabilitation project is a 1.88-mile corridor improvement initiative designed to enhance safety, traffic flow, and pavement longevity. The project includes hot mix asphalt, cold milling and resurfacing, the addition of a left turn lane, new concrete curb and gutter, guardrail installation, and updated pavement markings—all constructed following MDOT specifications. G2 Consulting Group provided construction materials testing and special inspections throughout the project.

Challenges/Solutions:

Unlike many municipalities, the City of Novi does not directly manage its road projects. Instead, designers lead the effort, requiring close collaboration between the City, OHM Advisors (design representative), and G2. Weekly coordination calls and a proactive communication strategy ensured alignment across all stakeholders.

With the corridor running through a densely populated area, minimizing disruption to residents and businesses was a top priority. G2 participated in a comprehensive startup meeting with all project committees to review lessons learned from the previous year and develop a proactive plan to address anticipated challenges.

Drawing from past project experiences, the team identified potential issues early and implemented mitigation strategies before construction began. This forward-thinking approach helped maintain the project schedule and reduce community inconvenience.

Proactive COLLABORATION

G2 worked closely with the City of Novi and project partners to identify challenges early, streamline communication, and minimize community disruption—keeping the project on track from start to finish.
