G2 Consulting Group (G2) is constantly looking ahead to ensure its “Smart. Results. Fast.” promise remains a reliable deliverable. Our newest capability, an in-house drilling service, does exactly that.
Geotechnical drilling requires two things: a competent, skilled workforce and the right equipment. As the industrywide pool of trained drillers continues to shrink, we have invested simultaneously in advanced drilling equipment and the personnel needed to operate it, addressing both today’s needs while preparing for tomorrow’s demands.
“There’s a shortage of knowledgeable drillers in the industry, and with G2’s goal of developing the best workforce, supported by the best technology, in the geotechnical field, it made sense to add both the equipment and the people at the same time,” said Mark Smolinski, P.E., G2 founding partner. “Our recent acquisition of Construction Testing Services was driven in part by their experienced drilling team and equipment.”
With specialized drilling companies in high demand, we had been experiencing long lead times and higher costs when relying on third-party providers. By bringing drilling services in-house, we have transformed what was once a cost center into a competitive advantage.
Our drilling capabilities allow access to most soil boring locations, including low-clearance areas such as existing buildings or beneath structures. We also utilize track-mounted rigs, enabling access to locations that traditional truck-mounted rigs cannot reach.
G2 specializes in “everything below the ground.” Geotechnical drilling is fundamental to successful project planning and risk management, providing direct insight into subsurface soil, rock and groundwater conditions that cannot be accurately assessed through surface observations alone. By obtaining precise, site-specific data, drilling allows engineers to design foundations, earthwork and structural systems that are safer, more efficient and more cost-effective, while reducing the risk of construction delays and unforeseen conditions.
“You can’t do serious drilling without the right people and the right equipment,” said Ethan Talabo, P.E., G2 project manager. “Drilling is increasingly critical to our operations. As we help develop the next generation of qualified geotechnical drillers, it’s better for the industry and it helps us consistently deliver on our promise: Smart. Results. Fast. That’s what every customer expects.”
